Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil

Wait! Did you hear that? Someone just asked me to star in a new musical with only four rehearsals in which to learn 16 songs and 123 pages of dialogue! Well I’m just crazy enough to DO it! Sure, this COULD be a disaster. But in this case, that’s a GOOD thing!

The creative team has promised me that in the big budget production of the show, I will get to wear a purple sequin dress like this, but it will rip and tear and get smaller and smaller to the point that by the end of the show, it’s a sort of purple sequin loincloth w/matching tube top.

Tomorrow night at 7:30, in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen I’ll be going through a long series of torments, traumas and catastrophes, ranging from rabid rats to earthquakes to killer bees.   And I’ll be singing and dancing my way through them all- like a real trouper!  Why?  Because like all good crisis junkies, I love a good disaster.

DISASTER! is a new musical parody of all those fantastic popcorn movies from the 1970s in which the world of sexy starlets and bickering alpha-males was falling apart.  Some of these movies were good, and some were pretty stinko.  But Jack Plotnick  and Seth Rudetsky have mined comedy gold out of the good, the bad, and the ugliest of this genre.

This show is considered a “Jukebox Musical,” meaning the songs in it are not original tunes written expressly for the show.  All the tunes are recognizable “one hit wonders” from the 1970s–  great songs like “Knock On Wood,” “Hot Stuff,” and “S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night.”

The best way I can describe the show DISASTER! is this… if you love the movie Airplane, then this show is for you.

I’ll be playing the role of “Jackie” starting Monday Dec 9th for the whole month of December, and possibly longer. You can buy tickets here.  And to get a quick glimpse of creator Seth Rudetsky’s last minute tap-instruction to a very dance-dyslexic me, click here!

… and then they broke out into a big disco number!
